Description of specimen

We saw several turtles (at least two) on a log in Summer Creek on one of the sunny days last week.

Commentary

Kristen, thanks for the report! Without photos I can't verify the ID. There are two species of native turtles in western Oregon, northwest pond turtles and western painted turtles. The two invasive species in Washington county are snapping turtles and red-eared sliders.

Tualatin SWCD works with partner agencies in controlling these invasive turtles that displace the native turtles.
