Description of specimen

We noticed a top die off on a large Ash tree last year on our property. This year 3 trees in a group are dead. 1- 20 inch dia.tree and 2- 8 inch dia.trees. Signs of some suckering, Sapsuckers have been working on the larger tree. Unable to find the "D" exit hole of the Emerald Ash Borer but am concerned. We have a Ash swale with about 150 trees. The die off is very unusual and a first in the woods. Normally the trees are very healthy and vigorous.

Commentary

Thanks for your report. I visited the site today. No signs of EAB. There were 2 trees (18” and 28-32” DBH) with complete dead canopy. Underneath the bark at eye level was green. Epicormic shoots. No EAB tunnels, exit holes, bark splits, woodpecker. Big tree had 100s of sapsucker. Cause unknown. No signs of EAB
