Commentary

Avatar of commenter Thank you for your report! This is actually the species Neoclytus conjunctus, called the Western ash borer although its grubs feed on other forest trees in addition to ash. They are native beetles, not tree killers and not considered to be pests. We have had several reports this spring of large numbers of these beetles in your area. It appears to be a "good year" for them.
Thanks for being on the lookout!
