Description of specimen

A giant bee estimated at 1.25 inches long. I have lived in Oregon my entire life and have never seen this here before.

Avatar of commenter Thank you for your report! It's not a bee. It's an Ammopelmatus (the list gives the name as Stenopelmatus -- an older name), called "Jerusalem crickets" but they're only distantly related to crickets, and they are native insects, not from the Middle East. They're usually subterranean and mostly nocturnal, and not commonly seen.
