Location

Summer Lake Park in Tigard is approximately 28 acres in size with a small lake. My backyard backs-up to the park and have lived here for 30 years. Over the years I have have identified (with a little help) three species of turtles. Oregon pond, Red-eared slider and Snapping.

I recently received a post card from Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District regarding reporting a Snapping turtle sighting to your organization. I would be the first to admit that I am not anywhere close to being an expert when it comes to identifying turtles. However, I have been up close to a Snapping turtle on land not far from our house and there is little doubt that it would be some other species.

My most recent Snapping turtle sightings have occurred this year 04/27 and 05/09, both from the bridge that crosses the center of the park lake.
