Land Plants - invasive

Scots Broom (Cytisus scoparius) on Jun 1, 2026

Originally reported as Gorse (Ulex europaeus)

Description of specimen

Absolutely choked with so much Gorse (Ulex europeaus) that the bright yellow is visible from the road and even on satellite photos. Looks like a major fire hazard? Only saw it from the road so I guess it could be Scots Broom instead.

Commentary

Avatar of commenter Hello Shoshonna,

I drove Marmot Rd about a week ago and all of the plants flowering that were viewable from the road were not gorse (Ulex europaeus).

The plants along the road were scots broom (Cytisus scoparius). I was not able to make my way through the forested area that is BLM land, as there was not an access point available. BLM personnel has been notified of the scots broom infestation and they are monitoring.

Thank you for keeping an eye out!
