Location

This plant, known as Bishop's Weed or Goutweed, is being cultivated by a neighbor, and has now spread onto my property on the adjoining fence line. This plant has already killed two of my Ceanothus, and has now sprouted 40-feet from the original location, after I have tilled the area twice now, and has now shown up in my backyard and side yard. This species is NOXIOUS, and I cannot believe it is not on Oregon's invasive plant list. After doing extensive, exhaustive research on this plant's habitats and - more importantly - how to get rid of it, I have read countless plant forums where others have also encountered the devastating effects of this plant. It spreads underground and attaches itself to any plants in its path, eventually strangling the plants' root system. I am attempting to naturalize my landscape and am a participant in the Columbia Land Trust/Audubon Society's Backyard Wildlife Certification program, planting native species. The Bishop's Weed has now sprouted among my Shore Pine hedge, and will surely girdle the root system unless I keep ahead of it, which is now a constant daily battle as new plants are sprouting up. More notably, we live ONE BLOCK away from Laurelhurst Park. If this plant makes it way into the park, the damage could be extensive and impossible to control if the plant becomes established, it could wipe out and choke any native shrubs.
