Description of specimen

This is the photo of the bug laying eggs about 2 weeks ago. Sorry that it's blurry, but it was brown, and looked just like the one on the right of this: http://images.bimedia.net/images/092910_oda_stink_bug_pics.jpg

I saw the left type of bug earlier today.

Commentary

Does insect killers work on these? The eggs have already hatched and it would be nice to suggest a way to get rid of them before they lay anymore eggs on my window.

Hi Linda, thank you for your report. Although there are some native stink bugs in Oregon, over the past several years, Portland has been invaded by the invasive brown marmorated stink bug. Thus, it is not surprising you are reporting seeing this species outside your home (although absolute identification is not possible without a better picture).

That said, there are a number of things you can do to remove brown marmorated stink bugs from both inside and outside your home. Here's a website that provides some safe alternatives that don't include the use of pesticides:http://stopstinkbugs.com/.

Unfortunately, this species is here to stay in the Willamette Valley. The website I gave you does provide hyperlinks to other sites that describe the type of pesticides that will work (if you choose that option).

I wish there was better news for you, but once some of these invasive insects take hold, it becomes very difficult to eradicate them from our state.
