Aquatic Plants - invasive

Parrot Feather Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum aquaticum) on Aug 13, 2012

Submitter has sample

Description of specimen

Myriophyllum aquaticum

Plant grows very quickly during warm/hot weather. Very dense matt of this plant in small farm pond. Took sample to Animal House in Corvallis, OR who has very knowledgable owner. He identified it as Myriophyllum aquaticum, we went online and confirmed his identification.

No photo because I'm reporting this from a work PC. Can provide one if you wish.

This was probably introduced by old farmer who scraped-up the pond. He tried to start various fish and things in this pond. Bluegills, bullfrogs and Myriophyllum aquaticum are about the only things that live there now. Old farmer now dead, but wife still lives at the location.

Commentary

This is part of the Ash Creek watershed. There is a low, but nonzero, probability this could wash into Ash Creek and into Willamette.
