Description of specimen

Cocklebur (Xanthium St. Rumarium)

The infestation in the SW corner of Rock Creek Reservoir lies within the Sportsman's Park Subdivision and local volunteers have been pulling plants for the past 10 years during the Fall in an effort to stop the growth in the lakebed. We seem to be fighting a losing battle as the return of water in the Winter and Spring brings all of the seed pods from the Northern part of the reservoir into our area.

Commentary

The northern part of the reservoir lies within the Mt. Hood National Forest and the infestation in this area has grown to the point it can no longer be controled by volunteers. Treatment is needed but we do not know the Agency to contact to address this problem.
