Ivy, English or Atlantic (Hedera helix or Hedera hibernica) on Feb 23, 2013

Description of specimen

Tranquil city park in Wilsonville has a tremendous amount of English Ivy that is choking out the native vegetation. I have seen numerous native species, including a significant number of Trillium, that are slowly being destroyed.

Commentary

I know that there are native tree plantings that happen in the park, but are there any plans of removing or eradicating the ivy in order to save the native plants? What else can be done?

Mr. White,

Thanks for submitting your report to the Oregon Invasive Hotline. I will forward your report to land manager responsible for that area. English ivy is a very difficult and costly plant to control, and unfortunately resources are often limited. So your report helps land managers more effectively manage their limited resources in a way that maximizes their benefit to the community.

For more detailed information on English ivy and its control follow the link below:

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have additional questions. Thank you again for you report.

Sincerely,
