Commentary
Thanks, Nick. We've been trying to get a handle on the knotweed along that stretch, but evidently missed some. I'll talk with the owners (either Parks or Metro) and see what can be done. Feel free to reach me directly at mitch.bixby@portlandoregon.gov.

Remedy
Oregon State University's Solve Pest Problems page has some great information about how to get rid of knotweeds Solve Pest Problems
This is a tricky weed to manage. Consider reaching out to your local Soil & Water Conservation District for technical advice.
Location
Start where Maplecrest Dr. bisects Marshall Park. Head SE on trail until you come to Tryon Creek. The trail crosses the creek by means of a large fallen cedar log. Immediately before crossing creek, walk about 50 feet along Tryon Creek streambed (in generally northerly direction). About 50-100feet N of where trail/log crosses Tryon Creek there is a large black cottonwood tree. At the base of the tree on the bank of Tryon Creek is a small population of Japanese knotweed.
