Hi Pat,
Thank you for using the hotline! Yellow flag iris is one of our priority weed species in the Tualatin Basin. It is very invasive and is detrimental to aquatic systems and native plants/wildlife. I have seen the yellow flag iris at Dawson Creek Park as well. The species seems to be used often in landscaping. Unfortunately, the landowner must agree to control the iris. This is difficult in these business park situations where iris was incorporated into the landscape. However, we can continue to create awareness of this species so residents throughout the Tualatin Basin know about its harmful effects. Again, thank you for your report!

I read an article recently in the Hillsboro Tribune about the Yellow Flag Iris as an invasive species (http://portlandtribune.com/ht/117-hillsboro-tribune-news/154662-weed-of-the-month). Unfortunately, this appears to have populated the lakes in Dawson Creek Park in Hillsboro. The iris plants and blossoms are beautiful and wouldn't have thought them to be such a concern. In the past 4 years we've had "volunteer" yellow flag grow in my home garden. I am removing these from my own garden and disposing as recommended in the Tribune article.
I thought it would be good to report what seems to be this type of iris at the park.
