Description of specimen

Shining geranium grows here on the roadcut on the E side of Hwy 101 and is easily observed in late spring because of the reddish tinge of the foliage. Once it goes dormant for the summer it will not be visible until new seedlings appear in the fall.

Commentary

Though common in the Willamette Valley, I did not realize this species also occurs on the coast. It is possible it is just starting to establish and it may be possible to control on the coast, at least locally. I wonder if it is spreading on roadside mowing equipment.
