Commentary
Dear Buzz Marcus,
Thanks for your report of Dalmation toadflax. Your report will be forwarded to the Deschutes County Weed Manager for evaluation and possible control.
We hope you will keep on reporting! Early detection of invasive species extremely important if we are to prevent them from becoming tomorrow’s spotted knapweed.
Species to be looking for are: Hawkweeds (Hieracium sp.), Yellow Sarthistle (Centaurea solstitialis), Yellow Toadflax (Linaria vulgaris), Leafy Spurge (Euphorbia esula), Whitetop Hoary Cress (Cardaria draba), Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria), Ribbon Grass (Phalaris arundinacea var. picta), Perennial Pepperweed (Lepidium latifolium), and Medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae). These are all species that are still not very abundant and could be controlled and eradicated if we find them early.
If you are interested in learning more about how to identify and report these species, The Deschutes County Weed Board, in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy, will be holding an “invasives-watch” training workshop on July 12th from 9:00am – 1:00pm at the Deschutes Co Road Department in Bend, 61150 SE 27th Street. If you would like to attend you can contact me at tsiemens@tnc.org. 541-914-0701
Thanks again for your report!
