Submitter has sample

Description of specimen

Large very dark moth that I hadn't seen before. It seemed to appear after a friend of mine stored some drums shipped from Uganda on my patio and in my garage.

Commentary

I have sent your photo on to the OSU insect identification lab, and will notify you when we receive an identification.

Hi Christina, thanks for your report and picture. I sent it on to Jim Young at the OSU insect identification lab, and he responded, "This looks like a Noctuid (cutworm). I can’t make out enough of the wing pattern to be certain but it looks like it could be a member of the genus Euxoa given the “brow” and dark coloration. There are several species of Euxoa in OR and several are Agricultural pests."

Thank you for your report - and great picture! And thank you for keeping a watchful eye out for potential invasives.
