Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata) on Apr 6, 2016

Submitter does not have a specimen
EDRR Status: Population treated

Description of specimen

Garlic Mustard is growing fast on NW Greenleaf Rd. Many of the plants are bushy this year instead of one stalk. They haven't flowered yet. Usually someone sprays along the road. They need to come very soon or the garlic mustard will have bloomed.

Commentary

Hi, Marjory. Thanks for your report. In a typical year, we have a 3-4 week window for our first treatment (until the flowers are gone), and then another week or two for our second treatment (when the seeds are ripe in the pods). That's late May or early June. Then we handpull until the pods dry out. You can follow our progress or check current plant stages at www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/garlicmustard, and click 'What's being done about it.'

So, no cause for alarm at this very early stage, but thanks for checking in!
