Evergreen bugloss (Pentaglottis sempervirens) on Apr 15, 2016

Description of specimen

Hairy stems and leaves. Lower, larger leaves have white speckles. Flowers are close to the stem and look like forget-me-nots. The plant is currently a foot and a half tall, and looks like it will grow taller. It was tough to identify; none of my plant-knowledgeable friends had seen it before. Now that I've figured out what it is, I'll pull it. I wonder if it's cropping up in other locations as well, so I thought I'd report it.

Commentary

Thanks, Teresa. We are seeing evergreen bugloss around the Portland area, primarily in disturbed areas. There's some concern about its distribution, but also questions about its ability to invade intact systems. Good to pull it where you find it, though.

Thanks for the report.....
