Commentary

Mr. Marquardt,

Thank you for taking the time to report the infestation of small broomrape in your garden area. This plant is an Oregon class B noxious weed and is relatively widespread in our area. Small broomerape is chiefly a concern related to clover production.

For additional information check the Oregon Dept of Agriculture Weed profile. (https://www.oregon.gov/ODA/shared/Documents/Publications/Weeds/SmallBroomrapeProfile.pdf)

On your property, I would recommend removing the plant, including the root mass, and burning on site, or bagging up and disposing of as trash.

Once again thank you for taking the time to report the sighting. If you have additional question, please feel free to contact me directly.
