Reptiles and Amphibians - non-native

Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina) on Mar 18, 2017

Description of specimen

Noticed an unusual shape in the water, got out the camera and shot the attached picture. I am not 100% certain of the identification, but enough that I thought it was worth sending in.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! There are definitely some populations of snapping turtles in Washington County, and there are some trapping efforts going on as they have a negative impact on our native wildlife. I will pass this on to the Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your photo!
