Land Plants - invasive

Italian Arum (Arum italicum) on Apr 10, 2017

Submitter has sample

Description of specimen

Italian arum. I didn't know what it was last year and pulled them out of the ground like any other weed. This year, of course, they've spread like crazy and are choking out other plants and beginning to take over the lawn.

Commentary

Hi, Beth. I don't have any really good advice for you. Arum is extremely difficult to manage...I don't know of any quick solution, other than staying on top of it (pulling new sprouts as they emerge to exhaust the roots). Feel free to check in with me directly (mitch.bixby@portlandoregon.gov) if you'd like to discuss this further.
