Insect or Spider (unknown species) (various) on Jun 18, 2017

Originally reported as Asian Longhorned Beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis)

Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

I do not have a physical specimen of the insect, however I did see multiple pencil-diameter round holes in the trunk of a tree which is known to be a host of ALB with lots of frass visible on the tree. Images of the symptoms are provided below. You may be able to retrieve location information from the photos and are welcome to do so.

Commentary

Dear Rachel, ALB is not known to occur in Oregon. We, local, state and federal agencies, actively survey for ALB, but have not detected ALB. There are also other longhorn beetle species that have exit holes similar to ALB's. Hard to make a definite ID without a specimen. Thank you and best regards,
Helmuth
