Description of specimen

The plant is nearly 5' tall, single stem, opposite leaves that are over 12" across. Leaves have a velvet feel. See photo.

Commentary

Hi, Carol. That looks like an empress tree (Paulownia tomentosa) to me. Not officially considered invasive, but will certainly turn into a 60' tree. I see it popping up more and more around town, so, I wouldn't wait around for it to become a problem. It should be fairly easy to pull up once we get some rain.
