Description of specimen

Blackish body with a red stripe on each tail segment and red bumps on its claws. Appears to be a young red swamp crayfish. It's about 6" long.

Commentary

Hello and thank you for your report! I agree this looks like a Red Swamp Crayfish. I will notify some of our aquatic invertebrate reviewers to see if they have any follow-up for you. In the meantime be sure not to move live crayfish from one waterbody to another, and keep an eye out for others - this could be a one-off lost bait, but we definitely would like to know if they keep showing up.
