Submitter has sample

Description of specimen

Our wasp trap has attracted moths. After our Apple tree was eaten by some sort of larvae this year it prompted me to look up different moth species. The moths are a bit lighter in color when alive and unfortunately the photos they’re all dead in the attractant liquid. The most defining feature I notice is the amber/ brown colored lump of the area behind their head/thorax area. These appear to be gypsy moths? Any other thoughts on what they could be?

Commentary

The wing shape and lack of pattern in these moths do not match gypsy moth but a specimen would need to be obtained for accurate ID. Submit a sample to Oregon Dept. of Agriculture for ID http://www.oregon.gov/ODA/programs/IPPM/InsectsSpiders/Pages/IdentifyInsect.aspx

For assistance with pest problems in apple contact your local OSU extension office: http://extension.oregonstate.edu/find-us
