Commentary

Good afternoon Jamie,

Thank you for taking the time to report this invasive tree to the Oregon Invasives Hotline. It is great to see local landowners taking an active role to control invasive weeds on their property. So I applaud your efforts.

Tree-of-heaven can certainly be a tough plant to control. In part due to its ability to resprout after cutting. It seems that you are aware of this as well. For small saplings, you can pull the plants. Unfortunately, for larger specimens it is generally advised that you use an arborist to remove large trees followed by a cut stem herbicide application to help address suckering and regrowth.

I also suggest that you contact your local code enforcement to inquire about city code that may apply regarding noxious vegetation and tree removal.

To assist you in your efforts please review the following Best Management Practices for controlling tree-of-heaven (https://columbiagorgecwma.org/weed-listing/best-management-practices/tree-of-heaven/) developed in cooperation with our partners from the Columbia Gorge CWMA.

Please take a look at the link above and feel free to contact me directly if you have additional questions.

Thanks again for reporting and good luck in all your efforts.

Sam
