Commentary
Greetings Kathleen,
Thank you for contacting the Oregon Invasives Hotline to report the infestation of Old Man's Beard (Clematis vitalba). It is great to see local landowners like yourself taking and active role to control invasive weeds. So thank you.
Old Man's Beard is a class B noxious weed in Oregon and widespread throughout our area. It can be extremely damaging to trees and other vegetation where it invades, and we strongly encourage landowners to control it whenever possible.
Unfortunately, because it is so widespread we must rely upon affected landowners to control this invasive plant. that said, we do have information to make your control efforts more effective.
I recommend that you review the following best management practices developed by our partners in King County, WA for controlling Old man's Beard.
This BMP is designed to improve your effectiveness in controlling this invasive plant. Please take a look and contact me if you have any additional questions.
Good luck in all your efforts.
Sinerely,
