Description of specimen

Photos clearly show the white hair around the muzzle and the prominent orange teeth. The rat like tail can also be clearly made out. The animal was the size of a large house cat.

Commentary

Hello and thank you for your report! Your ID is correct, this is a nutria. Unfortunately nutria are common and widely distributed through the Willamette Valley. It's unlikely that trapping a single animal would have an effect, as nearby nutria will eventually move back in. For these reasons, agencies tend to only remove nutria in specific situations.
