Description of specimen

Several large larvae was found when removing a stump from a large fallen pine tree. Dozens of smaller pines are complete dead and in the last couple of years a few of the larger pines have fallen. There is a very large pine near the folks house that looks suspicious to us and we worry it may fall as well.

Commentary

This may not be an invasive species issue. The larvae you found were likely woodboring beetles that get into the tree once it's dead/dying so they may not indicate what stressed or killed the tree. We have been having issues with Ips bark beetles where pines are dense but it would take some images or a visit to determine exactly what is going on. I will give you a call to follow-up.
