Description of specimen

Quick growing vine, with leaves of varying shapes, some three lobes, some single, all green. Looks like it will flower soon, but has not bud yet. See attached images.

Hi Joan,

Thanks for reporting this weed! Fortunately, this is not the invasive Kudzu. This looks like Old Man's Beard (Clematis vitalba) or some other species like Chinese bittersweet clematis. It's hard to tell until it flowers. Kudzu has hairy stems and the leaves look different (see http://www.oregon.gov/oda/shared/Documents/Publications/Weeds/KudzuProfile.pdf). Controlling clematis can be difficult. It can regenerate from the roots or by fragments like ivy. Clematis is so widespread that it's a lower priority for us to control and so we provide info for landowners to control themselves. I've included some useful weblinks below with control methods.
