Aquatic Plants - invasive

Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) on Jul 24, 2018

Description of specimen

I saw 10 to 12 scattered purple loosestrife plants in bloom around the edges of the wetland. Area covered is ~50 square feet total. Plants were 5-7' tall and did not show any signs of bio-control damage. To prevent the seeds from spreading, I deadheaded all the plants I could find and filled up one 13 gallon garbage bag. Plants were too well-rooted to pull. I will notify the City of Hillsboro who manages the park and let them know of the infestation so they can control.
