Description of specimen

Most likely meadow knapweed (C. intermedia). Numerous plants in various stages of flowering and seeding, many of them growing among other vegetation including ornamentals in the butterfly garden.

Resources

There are many non-native knapweeds present in Oregon, and their identification can be difficult. Some species hybridize. Here is one resource for identification: Identification of starthistles and knapweeds in the Pacific Northwest, but there may be more recent descriptions available.

Location

Rampant throughout butterfly garden and scattered sporadically along trail between Cook Park and Ki-A-Kuts Bridge, mostly in western area.
