Description of specimen

We believe this to be an elm Sawfly. It was about an inch and a half long.

Commentary

Dear Tiffany, yes, indeed, this was a Cimbex pacifica, the Pacific or elm sawfly. It is sporadically a pest in elms and willows, particularly in urban settings. Normally, no need to do anything about it. Thank you, Helmuth
