The Gilbert house discovery village in salem, oregon is keeping a red eared slider on display. The sign states that the slider was "rescued" from the Umatilla river. I feel that it is irresponsible and wrong for an educational institution such as the gilbert house to be putting out the idea that red eared sliders are appropriate pets in oregon, because they are not. They are illegal.
Thanks so much for taking the time to report this situation. I have notified Rick Boatner, Wildlife Integrity coordinator at Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Rick is going to follow up with Gilbert House Discovery Museum.
Thanks again,
