Description of specimen

Looks like small white worms inside Daylily flowers. Flower buds become pale, swollen and crinkly and don’t open. I think it’s Hemerocallis gall midge. I’m plucking flowers and putting them in a bag, so I have a specimen in there. Infesting about a third of the flowers.

Commentary

Dear Julie, for a positive ID we would need specimens. Please put the entire flowers with the specimens in a zip lock bag with a little alcohol and protect it in a padded envelope. Then send it to us: Helmuth Rogg, Oregon Department of Agriculture, 635 Capitol St NE, Salem, OR 97301.
Thank you., Helmuth
