Description of specimen

A big black beetle with super long antennas with white stripes on the antennas. Sorry we would've squished it had we known what it was.

Commentary

Dear Stephanie, thank you for your report. Luckily, this is not the invasive Asian longhorned beetle, but our native Oregon fir sawyer, Monochamus scutellatus.

Location

When you enter the campground area go right and there are a few large rocks there and a campsite beyond that. Two huge tall dead trees are there. There's a dead branch hanging in a tall pine tree to the left side of the campsite waiting to fall down.
