Description of specimen

Multiple borings into trunk of Silver Maple at about 10 feet above ground. Not sure of the insect causing the borings. Need help identifying.

Commentary

If the boring dust is light in color it is likely ambrosia beetles, they often attack dead and dying trees in large number - but may also attack healthy trees in smaller number and not cause harm. Please submit an image for further confirmation.
