Insects and Spiders - invasive

Asian Longhorned Beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis) on Jul 22, 2020

Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

We saw two beetles with very long antennae. They had mostly black bodies with irregular white splotches/markings. We didn't realize it was invasive when we saw it. We were curious and looked it up when we returned home. No photos were taken.

Commentary

Dear Paris, unfortunately without a specimen inn hadn't or a good image, it is hard to make a definite identification. Your description does sound like it was a longhorned beetle of the family Cerambycidae. We are looking out for the invasive Asian longhorned beetle, but we also have native longhorned beetles that look alike, such as the Oregon sawyer, Monochamus scutellatus. Thank you, Helmuth Rogg
