Commentary

Hi Rebecca, thanks for your report on Scotch broom. Unfortunately, scotch broom is firmly established in the Willamette Valley, and can now frequently be found in undeveloped areas, along roadsides, etc. Because of its widespread distribution and prolific seed production, it outcompetes a great deal of native vegetation. Persistent efforts over time can result in removal of the species in some locations, but it requires ongoing maintenance because of its current distribution. Thank you for your report.
