Commentary

Dear Jolette,
Thankyou for your submission. Thankfully that is not a Japanese beetle. It is a common spring emerging scarab in the genus Paracotalpa. It is sometimes called by it’s common name "the little bear" because of its overly hairy condition. Larvae are in the soil and are not usually seen. It is a native insect and not considered a pest.
