Description of specimen

I finally had the opportunity to see giant hogweed in person, so I am relatively sure this is hogweed and not cow parsnip. I can post photos shortly.

Commentary

I went back to the site to take photos and discovered that someone had cut it back. See photos.

Resources

There are many plants that look similar to giant hogweed, including our native cow parsnip. Giant hogweed is truly giant, often 7' to 14' tall, with leaves that can be up to 5' wide. There are some great photos comparing giant hogweed to similar species on the New York Dept of Environmental Conservation website.

Location

In an unattended yard on the East side of N. Grand St., about 8-10 housed from the end of the street (where it joins the bike path). The plant is visible from the street.
