Description of specimen

We thought the Velvet Leaf might be a sunflower at first. We have many sunflowers in our yard. The plant got to about 18" high before we identified it. It had a single stem, spade-shaped leaves (my description) that had very soft velvety leaves. When we removed it had a 1/2" fringed ball on the stem tips that reminded me of some types of poppies. It had two flowers that were just starting to show a bit of yellow or orange. It now is in my recycling bin but I'll remove the top and save it until I hear from you.
Thank you
