Land Plants - invasive

Scots Broom (Cytisus scoparius) on Jun 20, 2009

Submitter does not have a specimen
EDRR Status: Population assessed

Description of specimen

This area was logged several years ago (the Right View sale), so it seems that scotch broom was brought into the area by the vehicles used in the operation. Right now, the broom is mostly along the roadsides and some in an open area left by the logging. However, logging is planned (this summer and next) farther up the road and we are afraid the invasion will be spread farther by the heavier vehicle traffic the new logging will bring.

Commentary

Dear Nancy,

Thanks for reporting scotch broom! Is sounds like this may be a priority population for control. I will pass it along to the proper authorities for an assessment.

Keep on reporting! In that area we should also keep an eye out for false brome. Check out this website for more info and identification: it:http://extension.oregonstate.edu/news/story.php?S_No=973&storyType=garde

Thanks!

Tania
