Insects and Spiders - invasive

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (Halyomorpha halys) on Feb 4, 2022

Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

I have observed these insects here for several years and believe that they are being spread throughout the community via the food pantry! Triangle Lake Grange provides food boxes containing produce that seems to be the source of these insects.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! I agree this is a brown marmorated stink bug. Unfortunately they are very well established in western Oregon, and there are no regulations required. The Oregon Dept of Agriculture is working to increase populations of a biocontrol for these stink bugs: https://www.oregon.gov/ODA/shared/Documents/Publications/IPPM/BrownMarmoratedStinkBugPestAlert.pdf.
Your report helps us understand the distribution of invasive species.
Regards,
Lindsey
