Description of specimen

The plant is about six feet tall, branching, with tops growing 1.5 inch purple thistle type flowers. The stems are flagged along their length. Leaves are soft surfaced and margins are spined. The over all color is a light grey-green.

The plant was pulled, bagged and removed.

Location

Government Island is an Oregon State Recreation Area. It is a mix of cottonwood forest and open pasture. It is farmland being converted to recreation and wildlife uses.

The location of the Scotch thistle is near the south shore on a sandy cut bank populated by non-native pasture grasses and scattered Canada, bull and milk thistle; the latter under current control efforts.
