Red-Eared Slider Turtle (Trachemys scripta elegans) on Jun 17, 2022
Submitter does not have a specimen
Description of specimen
The turtle was on the opposite side of the marsh and I was unable to get a better photo of it. Unfortunately, I did not have the setting on RAW file.
Commentary
Thank you for your report! Sorry for the late reply. Your report furthers our understanding of the distribution of red-eared sliders in the state and provides information to managers.

Location
I was at the ponds in the Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge walking the tract that parallels Sydney Irrigation Canal. The pond was the third one back from the drive-up bird blind. I did not know at the time the turtle might be invasive until after posting photos on FB. Someone commented suggesting a Red Eared Slider. I believe the turtle is in Teal Marsh or Willow Marsh.
