Description of specimen

Just outside the ODHS office, under the large trees just off third avenue (parking lot of ODHS workers). It landed on my hand and I examined it extensively. I took a picture, went home and researched it. I have a hort degree and sustainability degree from OSU.

Commentary

Hi Jespen, thank you for your report! This beetle does appear to be in the same family (Buprestidae), but is not an emerald ash borer.

Resources

There are a few native, non-destructive wood boring beetles in the Buprestis genus, several of which are metallic green and may be confused with the Emerald Ash Borer. There is a nice guide from Oregon Dept of Agriculture for EAB look-alikes and you can learn more about the Buprestis beetles of Oregon at iNaturalist.
