Lytta cyanipennis (blister beetle) (Lytta cyanipennis) on Jul 16, 2022

Submitter has sample

Description of specimen

I took pictures because it was the emerald color I saw in a post this week about finding an invasive ash bug. Then I stepped on him. I found the post, then this page. Decided if needed, dead was better than none. When I went to retrieve him off my step, he is totally gone. It couldn’t have been more than fifteen minutes. So I guess he wasn’t dead.

Commentary

Thank you for your report!
This is a blister beetle, Lytta cyanipennis. There are a number of iridescent green look-alike beetles in Oregon that are not pests. I am attaching a link to the ODA EAB webpage with some photos of other Oregon insects that could be mistaken for EAB

Thanks for being on the lookout!
