Submitter does not have a specimen
My concern is Emerald Ash Borer. I have 3 Mountain Ash trees in my yard. One is near the end of the driveway by Coalman Rd. The other two are behind the barn in the Northeast corner of the property. All three are stressed, the tops of the two in back are dying, and several branches on the one in front are bare. There is extensive woodpecker damage and evidence of vertical cracks in the bark. I have not, as yet, found an insect.
Mountain ash is not a "true" ash tree, it's actually closely related to hawthorn trees. It's not a host of EAB. The holes on your trees were made by woodpeckers.
Thanks for being on the lookout!
