Flower Longhorn Beetles (Subfamily Lepturinae) on Aug 1, 2022
Submitter does not have a specimen
Description of specimen
Black Beetle, although one had more of a greenish-yellow iridescent shell.
Commentary
Thank you for your report! Those are longhorned beetles, and not bees. You saw 2 species of native "flower longhorns": the larger darker ones are Pachyta armata, and the smaller yellow one is the Golden flower longhorn, Lepturobosca chrysocoma. Neither species is a pest. Thanks for being on the lookout!

Location
We were about halfway up West Leg Road on Mt Hood. On the left was a lone Beargrass blossom, the first one we had seen on the way up the road. I stopped to get a photo because, from a distance, the blossom head looked to be full of bumble bees. They’re not bees at all but possibly a type of longhorn beetle. Photo attached. Thought it better to be safe than sorry.
